As a Senior Advisor, Dr. Hansen adds veterinary medicine and science policy consulting services to the portfolio of Hansen Consulting, LLC. She currently serves on the advisory boards of the National Academy of Medicine One Health Work group, several USDA grants, the CIDRAP Antimicrobial Stewardship Project, and the public health committee of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).
She is considered an honest broker with industry, consumer advocacy, public health and academic groups on infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, animal welfare, and food safety.
Previously Gail was the public health veterinarian at The Pew Charitable Trusts on the Antibiotic Resistance Project. She also served as a Congressional Fellow and professional staffer for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Dr. Hansen was the state epidemiologist and state public health veterinarian for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and an applied epidemiologist at the Seattle/King County Department of Public Health. She also spent 12 years in private veterinary practices in New York, North Carolina and Washington.
Gail received a bachelor’s of science in dairy science, a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Minnesota, and a masters in public health/epidemiology from the University of Washington.
Dr. Hansen’s professional expertise blends veterinary medicine with public health, epidemiology, animal welfare, and communication. She has over 25 years experience in infectious disease epidemiology and communicating complex scientific principles to both technical and lay audiences.
